Client situation
Eurail.com is a subsidiary of the Eurail Group, dedicated to the worldwide on-line sales of the Eurail Passes. Eurail.com was established in February 2006. Eurail.com has fulfilment centers in the USA and Ireland.
The Eurail products are managed by the Eurail Group. The Eurail Group is a cooperation between 30 European railways and some shipping lines. The Eurail Pass concept exists since 1959, so Eurail celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009.
Challenge
Eurail had a legacy E-Commerce solution which limited the sales and marketing departments in their daily job to make the site more successful through online marketing campaigns and increase conversion rates. Besides a legacy E-Commerce solution, Eurail has implemented a CMS, which was not integrated with the online shop.
Solution
Highlights of the solution implemented and hosted by Softlution are:
- Implementation of the shopping cart functionalities of the Intershop E-Commerce platform in a multi-lingual and multi-currency environment
- Separately branded shops for purchasing train passes by European customers (Interrail) and non-European customers (Eurail) with a single administration interface
- Bidirectional integration between the SmartSite CMS and the Intershop E-Commerce platform
- Call-center capabilities of the Intershop E-Commerce platform are being used by the fulfilment partner of Eurail.com
- Extensive roles & right setup for different profiles of internal and external users
- Advanced Ogone PSP integration with automated refund capabilities
- Sophisticated multi-dimensional reporting for sales and revenue/payback tracking for individual railway companies
- Automatic pricing calculation based on exchange rates and rounding rules
- Automatic generation of PDF invoices
- Google Analytics integration for visitor tracking and analysis

Results
After the go-live of the new SaaS solution based on the Intershop Suite 6 software, Eurail was able to increase conversion rates and execute more online marketing campaigns than ever. The new AJAX-based user interface has given the user experience a new dimension, with a very easy to use pass selector out of the 30.000 possibilities Eurail has their customers to offer.
The new solution is hosted in the data center of Softlution as a SaaS model.
