Client situation
Boox is the online bookstore of one of the world's largest publishing companies, Reed Elsevier, listed in several countries on the stock exchange. All brands of Reed are online and offline (paper) integrated. For Boox, Softlution integrated and hosts the whole E-Commerce value-chain from content suppliers to fulfilment and ERP.
Challenge
Reed Business had the ambition to set-up a new online shop within the shortest time possible. With the help of the experienced consultants of Softlution, Reed Business was able to have the new Boox.nl webshop up-and-running within 6 months from the first business plan through design and implementation.
Time-to-market was of the utmost importance for Reed Business. Softlution implemented the complex solution within 4 months after completing the requirements document together with the customer. Not only was the webshop successful launched on April 1st, 2008, but it included much more content and functionality as expected from the start.
Solution
Highlights of the solution implemented are:
- Conceptual design of an E-Commerce solution based on the Intershop Enfinity Suite 6 B2C Channel
- Implementation of the Intershop eCommerce Suite in a very aggressive timeframe
- More than 140.000 products, extending the catalog continuously ('longtail')
- Hosting of the solution from A2A, E-Commerce platform and ERP (SAP)
- Fredhopper Search & Navigation integration
- Credit card and iDeal payments via Bibit
- Tight supplier integrations through A2A
- Analytical reporting using Webtrends and Google Analytics
- Integration with Tripolis E-mail marketing solution
- Widget server for affiliate marketing purposes

Results
The results for Reed Business are a new webshop live within 5 months after the start of the project. The implementation of a best-of-breed, customized B2C feature on top of the Intershop Enfinity platform. The catalogue covers a wide product range such as books, magazines, audio books, digital editions and more. The content is supplied by various content suppliers and data transformation and migration is completely automated using an advanced A2A ('Application-to-Application') integration.
The online marketing specialists of Boox.nl can use the extensive online marketing capabilities of the Intershop eCommerce platform, e.g. free shipping, tiered pricing structures, customer product review and rating, A/B testing, etc.
For optimized navigation, search and extra online marketing functions Fredhopper has been integrated. The webshop has been Search Engine Optimized (SEO) resulting in reaching a high PageRank shortly after go-live. Webtrends and Google Analytics are integrated for visitor tracking, analysis and reporting.
